San Diego is a multicultural, multi-lingual community with residents from all over the world. In recognition of this fact, California Kids Care offers several services for members with limited English proficiency.
24-hour access to interpreters
Interpreters may be requested for Members whose primary language is not English by calling California Kids Care Member Services toll-free at 1-844-225-5430 (TTY 711). Interpreters can also be arranged through your Care Navigator.
For face-to-face interpretation and ASL services, requests must be made at least two days prior to the appointment date. However, even with advance notice, face-to-face translation services for some languages may not be available.
In the event that an interpreter is not available for face-to-face interpreting, California Kids Care can make arrangements for telephone interpretation services.
Translation of written material
Written information, including the Member Handbook, Member’s Rights and Responsibilities, and policies and procedures are translated into Spanish and other languages as requested, at no cost to the Member. Members may request translated materials by calling Member Services at 1-844-225-5430 (TTY 711) or email CaliforniaKidsCare@rchsd.org.
Members who do not select a primary care physician are automatically assigned to one based on identified language need and geographic proximity to a Member’s residence.
Notices available from the Department of Managed Health Care
Informational notices explaining how Members can file a complaint with California Kids Care, obtain assistance from the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) and seek an independent medical review are available in non-English languages on the DMHC website. The notice and translations can be downloaded and printed from www.hmohelp.ca.gov.
